Dear Sir
Yours of the 23rd is just to hand.
Many thanks for your kind invitation
for the new year which it will give me
much pleasure to accept if I can manage
to do so. I could not possibly leave
Melbourne before the 1st Jan so that
I would see you in Sale. My ability
to pay Gippsland a visit will in a measure
depend on the weather up here. It has
been very dry and unless rainfall
I would have to return here as soon
as possible. However I will do my
best. This is a wonderfully dry locality
the rainfall for years seldom being over
12 inches and the average for last
three years 8 inches.
