As to geological text book I cannot
recommend a better "ABC" than "Page's
Textbook of Geology" which I think is only
about 5/-. After that by all means consult
Professor Geikies Edition of Jukes manual
of Geology. This latter is the best out.
For the general principles of the science
by all means read Lyell's Principles of Geology.
As to chemistry one of W & R Chambers
Series Wilson's Chemistry is the best I can think
of in a small [??]. But by all means
get Professor Cooke's "New Chemistry" 5/-
and lastly "Principles of Chemical Philosophy"
by the same author. After you have read
these I suggest Blexans Laboratory Teaching
whcih with about 20/- worth of apparatus and
Reagents will enable you to master the
methods of Qualitative analytics
yourself and I am sure afford you a
vast amount of interesting occupation.
I now wait with much interest
your next communication
Yours very sincerely
A W Howitt
