Spencer and Gillen would deal
with the Central Tribes, and
Roth with the north east. This
might help to clear the
air, befogged at present
by Lang and Co. There is
by the way one man in
Europe who seems to have
found salvation at last. His
name is L. van Gennep, a
Frenchman. I judge partly
by his letters to me, partly
from his book, Mythes et
Legendes d'Australie [underlined] (Paris, 1906)
which however I have only
as yet superficially examined.
