January 21 1884

Dear Sir
I really must apologise
for having left your letter of
27 October so long unattended
to but I was in hopes I might
have worked up some imspiration
relative to the aborigines [?about?]
here which might have been
useful or interesting and then
the busy time coincided with
[??] end of the year came on and
this with intense heat of the
weather had made me remiss.

There are very few natives
in this barren part of the world
natural surface water being so
scarce that anything like
a tribal community was
