Point Macleay
3 July 1873
The Revd L Fison
My dear Sir,
I must confess that I have
been very negligent in not answering
yours of the 6th May before this. Also I
have now to acknowledge the receipt
of yours of the 3rd June. My excuse
for not writing before must be the
old one of 'no time'. I have been
so busy that I could not get time.
I feel deep interest in the subject
but business had to be attended to.
I now enclose Mr Homans note
in reply to your letter of May 5th
I think it contains all the particulars
which you asked for. Mr Homans
address is Flinders St Adelaide
The Revd E Homan. He is the Pastor
of the Lutheran church in Adelaide.
I have also been making some
further enquiries. I always like
to go to fountain heads. I have a
dear friend staying at Bangalore
in South India and in intimate
and constant intercourse with
the Rev Mr Symons the Tamil
missionary there. So I sent a
series of question to get answered
at the Tamil fountain head.
I have received the following list
of words.
Father Tagappen. Fathers elder
brother. Periya Tagappen (great father)
Fathers younger brother, Chiuna Tagappen

[in side margin]
P. S. I am in communication with some friends
from whom I hope to get information concerning
the Northern Territory languages.
