Teacher and missionary who lived in the Mt Gambier region. Smith had written and published a book in 1880, The Boandik Tribe of South Australian Aborigines. Howitt used this as a reference source and corresponded with Smith about the Bugandidj, acknowledging her in the preface of his 1904 book.
