Brewin

The Brewin is an 'evil spirit', described in Fison and Howitt (1880: 250) as ““who is like the wind”, and who, entering his victims, can only be expelled by suitable incantations.” Howitt (1904: 429) added the following legend: "A Kurnai legend about Brewin is as follows. “Long time ago the moon (Narran) was a young man. He went out hunting, and found an emu on the other side of a creek. When he wanted to cross over on a log, Brewin twisted it round so that Narran fell into the water. Each time he tried to walk over, Brewin made him fall in.”
