Mary E. B. Howitt

Mary (1866-1936) was always called 'May' and was A W Howitt's daughter. May accompanied her father on some of his travels, showing an interest in his work. She compiled her own manuscript of Aboriginal mythology and co-published on the topic. The manuscript, 'Folklore and Legends of Some Victorian Aboriginal Tribes’, was shared with James Frazer who published extracts, but the original MS has gone missing. The research team have searched for this in Frazer's collection, as well as in Howitt's papers, to no avail.
